Behavioral and environmental policy research on the frontier
The Teton Group is a distinguished collection of prominent scholars conducting research at the intersection of behavioral science and environmental policy. Each year, the group convenes in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to collaborate on groundbreaking research that shapes current ideas and debates in environmental economics and policy.

Calls on environmental agencies to adopt rigorous randomized experiments as standard practice, arguing that without experimental evidence, billions in environmental spending may fail to achieve conservation goals. [full paper]

This paper documents the direct impact of experimental research on environmental policy and natural resource management decisions, including shaping the designs of emissions trading programs, fishing regulations, conservation auctions, and regulatory enforcement and compliance. [full paper]

Environmental protection should be treated analogously to infrastructure under the Takings Clause. We argue a regulation is a compensable taking when it restricts a land use for which a voluntary market or contractual mechanism already exists.

We argue that the intangibility of risk reduction is a distinct and under appreciated source of policy bias--one that operates even when voters are rational, information is abundant, and risks are well-understood.

A pyramid is used to organize climate policies by impact, which invites researchers to ask new questions and chart new directions. The broader agenda can help behavioral science contribute more powerfully to systemic change needed to address climate change.
